PRESS RELEASE - OCTOBER 2004

Results of a recent survey by the Morgan Horse Association (UK) emphasised the Morgan’s renowned versatility. While nearly all members enjoyed hacking out on their horses, they competed them in a wide variety of other disciplines, including showing, dressage, endurance, showjumping, western, hunter trials, hunting, eventing, le Trec and saddleseat.

The survey revealed that 40% of Morgan owners have more than one. ‘They really do get you hooked!’ said Jennifer Swordy, a freelance marketing consultant based in Laxton, Nottinghamshire, who conducted the survey on behalf of the Association. ‘It appears Morgans won us all over due to their beauty, versatility, temperament, intelligence, size and character.’

Competing at the top of the tree is Jane Severn, from Hampshire, who with her horse Sealmaster’s Approved has recently been selected for the British Endurance Team.

MHA (UK) President David Baker, said, ‘The survey will help to influence the direction of the Association in the future to meet our members’ needs and to promote this fantastic breed of horse.’ David travels the length and breadth of the UK showing Morgans in driving classes for Cambridgeshire-based Sealmaster Fire Draught and Weatherseals, as well as presenting Morgan displays. He also hopes to be participating in dressage competitions this winter with a horse that has already proved a winner in the showring.
